Service Description

Course Description Participants will gain exposure to several current programming languages. The lead instructor will facilitate group engagement and discussion, and provide programming support. Additional support may be provided by various volunteers from the local tech industry. This course provides students with an opportunity to engage with cohort members while completing assignments required of the HarvardX CS50 online as an introductory course on computer science and the art of programming, with or without prior programming experience. This course teaches students how to think algorithmically and solve problems efficiently. Topics include abstraction, algorithms, data structures, encapsulation, resource management, security, software engineering, and web development. Languages include C, Python, Java, SQL, and others. Problem sets inspired by real-world domains of biology, cryptography, finance, forensics, and gaming. Students who meet the completed course requirements will receive a certificate from HarvardX and from Tech901. Course Materials Students must provide a personal laptop and will need access to the internet when viewing course lectures and use of coding tools available online. Career Services Training Scheduled class times will be reserved for Career Services Training. In this time, we’ll cover topics such as Resume Building, Professionalism, Interview Practice, and opportunities for Professional Networking. Grades and Attendance Assignments will be submitted to Harvard for grading at which point you will be informed of passing grades, and students’ current standing in the course will be available in the student CMS. Students are expected to complete at least seven (7) passing Problem Sets, all Python practice assignments, and the two OO assignments in order to receive a certificate from Tech901. Regular attendance is expected and required for graduation. Inform your instructor if you will miss class. The instructor reserves the right to dismiss any student because of lack of progress, frequent unexcused absences (3 or more lessons), frequent tardiness, disruptive behavior, and/or failure to abide by Tech901 policies. Tutoring and Review All students are invited to come for extra help during non-class times. This can often be the best way to get the necessary help for mastering the content required for the certification exam.
