The Compass or the Navigator?
Different Evaluations for Different Tracks
We get that the idea of an online evaluation might be stressful, but it doesn't have to be!
All Tech901 applicants are required to pass an assessment in order to enroll into our IT career training programs.
For the IT Professional track, trainees must pass the Compass. The goal is to perform at a 9th grade quantitative comprehension level, and a 10th grade verbal comprehension level.
For the Programming and Software Development track, applicants take the logic-based Navigator assessment. Trainees must must correctly answer 15 or more of the 26 questions in the assessment.
Hardware Tech and IT Professional Track Entrance Evaluation

ability to perform basic math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
a basic understanding of algebra and geometry
ability to locate, understand, and use information in different formats
ability to recognize words according to their meaning and context
ability to recognize and identify correct grammar
Please note that we allow only two attempts at the Compass evaluation for admission into Tech901.
Why do I have to take an evaluation?
IT is an industry with a lot of opportunity for people of all abilities. Our courses at Tech901 are fast-paced, and require a lot of independent study. We've found that passing these assessment evaluations is a good indicator of course performance.
What do I need to take an evaluation?
You'll need a computer with a solid internet connection.
You're allowed to have scratch paper and a calculator during your evaluation.
Once you start the test, you will not be able to pause or stop. Make sure you're in a quiet place without distractions.
What happens if I don't pass the evaluation?
If you have a tough time with the Compass, that's ok! You'll get a second chance to take it at the Tech901 offices.
Unfortunately, we don't allow retests for the Navigator. If you're still interested in Tech901 classes though, you are allowed to try out the Compass and our IT Professional courses.
Programming and Software Development Track Entrance Evaluation
Enrollment into to the Tech901 Programming and Web Development track requires students be proficient in logic and theory. The Navigator is a demanding evaluation for a demanding course.
The test has 26 questions that must be completed within a 40-minute time limit. *Note: The Navigator Evaluation is not available for retest.
We recommend that all testing take place using a high speed, wired connection to the internet to minimize the possibility of disruption.
